Global grabs OLED market, Samsung continues to dominate for 2 years

Since the media has spread that Apple will use OLED panels in the new iPhone series in 2018, it will cause a big topic in the global panel industry. Han, Japan, Lu and Taiwan's panel factories are planning to set up small and medium-sized OLED panel production lines, of which, of course, the Korean factory Samsung shows the most strength; while the Lu factory represents the official capital of BOE, madly cast OLED production line; JDI is carried out in the form of “Intellectual Assets Authorization”; the Taiwanese factory is dominated by Sharp, and the mass production plans of various panel factories are being rolled up one by one.

According to the IHS survey of the market research organization, in the July-September 2016, the global shipment of small and medium-sized OLED panels exceeded 100 million. Among them, South Korea's Samsung Display (SDC) shipped nearly 100 million pieces, accounting for more than 90% of the market, while the mainland plant shipped more than 1 million pieces for the first time, mainly based on Tianma Microelectronics, Hehui Optoelectronics and Kunshan Guoxian.

Samsung showed that in response to the upcoming orders, the production of the A3 line of the Asan Plant and the L7 line of the Tangjing Factory have been upgraded and the 6th generation OLED production line equipment is ready for mass production to further open the gap with other suppliers. Other interested in OLED manufacturers include LG Display, BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics, Sharp Optoelectronics and JDI.

For panel manufacturers that plan to invest in small and medium-sized OLED mass production, the real key lies in the supply of vacuum evaporation equipment and evaporation material sources, otherwise all scheduled production schedules will not proceed as expected. Samsung has accumulated 10 years of experience in mass production, leading several generations of key material patents, formulation specifications and process equipment, and has close cooperation with suppliers. It has core patents. It seems that Samsung has no peers in the short term. Compatible.

Although Apple has recently approached Samsung to display Japanese, Korean and mainland panel makers, it has followed many of the company's supplier strategies. Among them, BOE took the initiative to express its willingness to Apple and conducted tests for several months on BOE AMOLED panels. It is worth noting that even if BOE enters the Apple supply chain, it will not wait until after 2018 to have the opportunity to start supplying.
