Intelligent Insulator Detection Robot is Put into Use for the First Time in Heilongjiang Harbin Ultra High Pressure Company

“Manual detection insulators with hidden dangers such as high-altitude crashes and electric shocks will gradually be replaced by intelligent insulator detection robots. Under the operation of Heilongjiang Harbin Ultra High Voltage Company’s transmission professionals, the first domestic research and development project developed by Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences can be conducted. The robots with live detection work successfully completed the detection of the 500 kV Henan No. 2 line 483 tower insulator insulators and put them into practical use on the spot.” March 13th, the reporter learned at the site of the inspection of live insulators at Harbin Ultra High Voltage Company in Heilongjiang.

This operation was the first time the company used an intelligent robot to conduct the detection of insulator electrification. To ensure the safety and security of the inspection, the company formulated a detailed on-site standardization operation plan for the operation characteristics and arranged site safety measures. The robot is installed by the operator on the insulator to be tested. After the command is input, the robot is tested and returned in sequence, and the detected data is successfully recorded in the internal memory.

It is understood that this robot is suitable for the live detection of double-strength porcelain horizontal insulator strings in EHV transmission lines. It has an active drive function, can adapt to insulator distance changes, and can automatically crawl along strings. The operator only needs to place the robot on the insulator to be tested and start the detection procedure. The robot will automatically move piece by piece. Each piece of insulator will trigger the intelligent insulator detector to realize the resistance test of the insulator.

With the development of state maintenance work, the use of intelligent robots for the detection of insulator electrification can detect the hidden dangers of line insulator damage during operation, fully grasp the line operation status, and provide a reliable basis for the state maintenance assessment of transmission lines.
