The MAX16809/MAX16810 are integrated high-efficiency white or RGB LED drivers. The device is designed for LCD backlighting or other LED lighting applications with multiple LEDs in series. The MAX16809/MAX16810's current-mode PWM controller regulates the output to the voltage required by the LED array. The device can be boosted or boosted (SEPIC) topology depending on the input voltage range and the LED voltage range.
The MAX16809/MAX16810 LED drivers include 16 open-drain, constant sink current LED driver outputs rated for a continuous operating voltage of 36V. The LED current control circuit achieves ±3% current matching between the LED strings and can be used in parallel to provide LED string currents in excess of 55mA. The output enable pin is available for synchronous PWM dimming of all output channels. The dimming frequency range is 50Hz to 30kHz, and the dimming ratio can be as high as 5000:1. The constant current output can be programmed with a single resistor and the LED current of each output channel can be adjusted up to 55mA.
The MAX16809/MAX16810 operate in stand-alone mode or are controlled by a microcontroller (μC) via an industry-standard 4-wire serial interface. The MAX16810 includes a watchdog and an LED open-circuit auto-detection circuit.
The MAX16809/MAX16810 are overtemperature protected and operate over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range and are available in a 5mm x 7mm thermally enhanced, 38-pin exposed pad package.
