Nordic's nRF52840 multi-protocol SoC implements simultaneous connection of Thread and Bluetooth 5

Nordic's nRF52840 system-on-chip (SoC) features dynamic multi-protocol features that uniquely support both Thread and Bluetooth 5 wireless connectivity (without having to disconnect another network before connecting to a network). This feature also ensures that any Thread product based on the Nordic nRF52840 SoC and the Nordic nRF5 SDK for Thread can seamlessly interoperate with Bluetooth 5 devices.

Nordic Semiconductor announced that the new multi-protocol SoC device nRF52840 , which supports both Bluetooth® 5 (low-power Bluetooth) and IEEE 802.15.4 ( the foundation for the Thread network standard and OpenThread stack), is now Thread 1.1 certified. The nRF52840 SoC has passed all Thread certification tests and supports Bluetooth 5 connectivity to the central device. These tests show that the nRF52840 SoC enables applications to use both Thread and Bluetooth 5 wireless connectivity, without having to disconnect another network before connecting to a network.

Nordic's nRF52840 SoC is the only multi-protocol SoC device on the market that supports both Thread and Bluetooth 5, which is implemented through the low-power Bluetooth and Thread 'Dynamic Multi-Protocol' capabilities of SoC devices (see below). It allows simultaneous support for the Nordic S140 v5 protocol stack (a low-power Bluetooth protocol stack for the nRF52840 SoC and is part of Nordic's nRF5 software development kit (SDK) for Thread) and the OpenThread RF protocol stack. About dynamic multi-protocol
