USB vs IEEE1394

1. What are the main points of USB and IEEE1394?

Both are common external device interfaces.

Both can quickly transfer large amounts of data.

Both can connect multiple different devices.

Both support hot plugging.

Both can use no external power supply.

What are the differences between USB and IEEE1394?

The transmission rate of the two is different. The transfer rate of USB is very small compared with the speed of IEEE1394. USB's transmission speed is only 12Mbps/s, and it can only connect low-speed devices such as keyboard, mouse and microphone. IEEE1394 can use 400Mbap/s, which can be used to connect high-speed devices such as digital cameras, scanners and information appliances.

The structure of the two is different. USB must have at least one computer at the time of connection, and HUB must be required for interconnection. Up to 127 devices can be connected to the entire network. IEEE1394 does not require a computer to control all devices and does not require a HUB. IEEE1394 can be used to connect multiple IEEE1394 networks using bridges. That is, after implementing 63 IEEE1394 devices with IEEE1394, other IEEE1394 networks can be connected using a bridge. Get up and reach unlimited connections.

The intelligence of the two is different. The IEEE1394 network can automatically reset the network when its device is increased or decreased. USB uses HUB to judge the increase or decrease of connected devices.

The degree of application of the two is different. Now USB has been widely used in various aspects, almost every PC motherboard has a USB interface, USB2.0 will further increase the scope of USB applications. IEEE1394 is now only used in audio, video and other multimedia aspects.
