The LED behind the replacement of energy-saving lamps: analysis of the recycling mechanism blank

Edison may not have expected that bringing bright lights to humans will one day cause environmental pollution. The source of pollution is not the incandescent lamp invented by Edison, but the energy-saving lamp that is being promoted nowadays. The news that an energy-saving lamp contains an average of 0.5 milligrams of mercury, which pollutes the environment, has recently received widespread attention. However, while the country strongly advocates energy-saving lamps to go to the countryside, the corresponding waste energy-saving lamp recycling mechanism is a blank.

An energy-saving lamp can pollute 10 tons of water
The incandescent lamp invented by Edison has enabled mankind to realize the dream of light. For more than 100 years, incandescent lamps have become the first choice for many home lighting because of their low price. With the development of energy-saving technologies, the drawbacks of incandescent lamps that "only 5% of electrical energy is used for lighting, and the remaining 95% are all consumed by heat" have gradually become prominent. At the same power, the luminous efficiency of energy-saving lamps is five times that of incandescent lamps. In the case of the same brightness, the energy-saving lamp saves 80% of electricity compared to incandescent lamps.

After the European Union, the United States and other countries proposed the elimination schedule of incandescent lamps, China also took out its own road map last year. But energy saving may not be equal to environmentally friendly paintings. It is understood that an ordinary energy-saving lamp has an average mercury content of about 0.5 mg, which is only enough to be covered with a ballpoint pen tip. However, if it is improperly disposed, it may cause 10 tons of water to be contaminated (based on the water quality of the nature reserve). Because mercury has a low boiling point, it can evaporate at normal temperature. After the waste energy-saving lamps are broken, the concentration of mercury in the surrounding air can be exceeded by a hundred times. Once the mercury in the human body exceeds the standard, it will destroy the central nervous system of the human body, and can be killed by inhaling 2.5 grams of mercury vapor at a time.

As early as August 1, 2008, the “National Hazardous Waste List” issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the National Development and Reform Commission has included the recycling of energy-saving lamps. However, energy-saving lamp recycling is a blank.

Rural areas or become the hardest hit area
A year ago, the National Development and Reform Commission released China's "eliminating the incandescent lamp road map", proposing that from October 1, 2012, the import and sale of ordinary lighting incandescent lamps will be phased out according to the power level. China will basically eliminate incandescent lamps within five years. . In 2010 alone, the National Development and Reform Commission promoted 150 million high-efficiency lighting products through financial subsidies.

The pollution caused by energy-saving lamps has also attracted attention in Foshan. In the warehouse of Foshan Qiandeng Store, more than 100 recycled energy-saving lamps have been stored so far. At the highest time, there are more than 3,000. Liang Guojian, general manager of Qiandeng Store, said that they held recycling activities for energy-saving lamps in 2009 and 2011 respectively. They have activities in the community of ten years old, such as the Rose Garden and the famous residence in the south of the Yangtze River. They have recovered more than 1,000 discarded energy-saving lamps at a price of one yuan each. In addition to the store's recycling and redemption activities, a total of several thousand were collected. However, the place where these discarded energy-saving lamps went, made Liang Guojian guilty. After storing for quite some time, they shipped thousands of scrap lights back to the NVC factory. This is the main sales brand of Qiandeng. "I don't know how to deal with the last factory," Liang Guojian said.

However, in addition to occasional merchant recycling activities, the recycling of waste energy-saving lamps is almost zero. “Compared with the urban area, the problem in rural areas is even more serious.” Wu Yulin, president of the Foshan Lighting Association, said that the state promotes energy-saving lamps in a subsidized manner, mainly in rural areas where purchasing power is relatively weak. The packaging of energy-saving lamps did not tell rural residents how to discard them. “If you arbitrarily discard it into a river or field, it is a disaster for the environment.”
