The LT3965 operates with an LED driver circuit configured as a current source. The LT3965 has eight individually controlled floating 17V/330m? NMOS switches. With these internal power switches and an integrated I2C serial interface, each LED in the LED string can be individually turned on or off, or they can be PWM dimmed to provide a unique illumination pattern for the LED matrix. Typical applications include automotive matrix LED headlights, industrial lighting, and large LED display lighting. Digital programming with a 256:1 dimming ratio via the I2C serial interface allows for a gradual transition with or without 11-bit resolution between dimming states. Each switch can control and monitor a single LED or a segment of LED connected in series with a voltage of up to 16V. The LT3965's 8V to 60V input voltage range is suitable for a wide range of LED drivers used in automotive and industrial applications. For larger LED matrix applications, multiple LT3965s (up to 16) can use a common I2C bus. The eight switches of the LT3965 can be connected in parallel and/or in series to bypass one or more LEDs in the LED string. When using multiple LT3965s, the I2C serial interface allows the primary microcontroller to communicate with one or more LT3965s configured as slaves. The LT3965 provides an internal clock generator and also supports an external clock source for PWM dimming. In addition, each channel of the LT3965 provides open LED and shorted LED fault reporting and protection. The device is packaged in a 28-lead TSSOP heat-resistant enhancement package to ensure a compact footprint solution for matrix dimming applications. The LT3965EFE is available in a thermally enhanced 28-lead TSSOP package. The industrial temperature version LT3965IFE has been tested to operate over the –40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature range.
