Smart watches are a good accessory for Ford to use to improve driving safety!

Since the exposure of Google's driverless cars, BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and other car brands have publicly stated that they are developing driverless technology. It is foreseeable that unmanned cars will debut in the near future. Prior to this, it was necessary to go through the semi-automatic phase of the ADAS stage, auxiliary brakes, and the final unmanned automatic stage.

At present, many companies have launched ADAS products, such as driving guards. Specifically, current ADAS products include FCW (forward collision avoidance warning), LDW (lane departure warning), pedestrian identification, blind zone and lane change assist, and panoramic 3D look-around. But these auxiliary security features do not take into account the physical state of the person. So, Ford is ready to take a step forward.

Ford recently announced that it will set up a new laboratory called AutomoTIveWearablesExperience, mainly to explore how wearable devices such as smart watches can make car driving easier and safer.

Specifically, the body state data collected by the wearable device such as heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, and sleep are fed back to the in-vehicle system to allow the car to make timely adjustments. For example, the data collected by the smart watch indicates that the driver lacks enough sleep, then the car's lane keeping assist system will increase the sensitivity and reduce the possibility of accidents. Of course, Ford is not limited to smart watches, but also wearable devices such as smart glasses and smart fitness bands.

It is worth mentioning that Ford has set up a $10,000 bonus to encourage its employees, and the winners who succeed in realizing the combination of wearable device data and in-vehicle systems will be released in March.

In fact, the idea of connecting wearables to in-vehicle systems has long been tried. For example, Volvo and Microsoft cooperated to launch the Microsoft Band2 smart bracelet. Through the voice control system, Microsoft Band2 can operate vehicles, such as remote control of door locks, air conditioning systems, lights, audio and even navigation systems.
