AR tools help customers choose decoration colors

The sample looks good in home decoration, but it may not look good on your wall. Many factors affect the final appearance of a color, so Sherwin-Williams created an AR tool called ColorSnap Visualizer to help users make better decisions.

The ColorSnap Visualizer tool has a feature called InstantPaint that lets you choose from a variety of colors and lights, as well as create custom palettes that you can then share with friends and family to make the final decision.

The app uses a smartphone camera to identify walls in 3D space. Then, just tap on a wall and select the colors created by 1500 Sherwin-Williams to see the color of the wall.

Meghan Vickers, director of e-commerce marketing at Sherwin-Williams, said: "The new feature of using the emerging AR technology is actually to create a space and then pick up the brush, which provides a fast, seamless way for homeowners and professionals. The way is more accurate in the process of selecting colors."

Sherwim-Williams has been a specialty retailer of paints and painting supplies for 150 years. The company is continually joining more and more retailers who are trying to reach out to customers directly and provide more value to customers through the use of immersive technology.

Other features of the app include color matching, where users can select a photo, click anywhere on the photo, and get a color that matches the Sherwin-Williams color.

The ColorSnap Visualize tool uses the ARKit and ARCore toolkits to create accurate 3D space maps and quickly and accurately apply paint colors to the desired walls. The app is currently only compatible with iPhone 6 or new running iOS 11.
