This year, "Xiaoyi" has been officially released, and the story behind Zhou Hongyi's impressive robot project is also worthy of attention.

Since June 2015, “Xiao Yi” has appeared in many important exhibitions under the line, and has a close connection with the “360” brand. Rooted in Shenzhen, which belonged to the company that entered the field of robotics earlier, what valuable experience did the “Xiaoyi” team gain after two years of market training and tuning? What level of cooperation do 360-eco-chain companies have? Follow-up focused product and market direction?

Recently, the "Xiao Yi" team, the founder and CEO of King Kong Ant Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. Fang Feihai, came to Beijing. The Zhidong, the pioneer of the wisdom, the wisdom, and the ingenuity made an in-depth dialogue with Fang Feihai with these questions and thinking about the industry.

What courage does the third venture take?

Before the start of business, Fang Feihai worked in the traditional hardware industry, and the hardware industry with no new ideas made him feel bored. Unwilling to calm down, he resolutely resigned from this stable work that was immersed for 11 years and joined the wave of entrepreneurship. Prior to the establishment of King Kong Ant Co., Ltd. and the creation of Xiaoyi Robot, he had two ventures. Since no capital was introduced, both ventures did not last long.

In 2014, Fang Feihai, inspired by friends, decided to start a business for the third time. This time, he was determined to build a children's product. A team of eight people was called and he entered the robotics industry. He named his first robot “Little Memories”. Due to the accumulated experience and contacts of the hardware industry for many years, this venture has gradually improved.

Fang Feihai, who is a father, believes that many families now feel empathetic because their parents are busy with work and spend so little time with their children. It is this phenomenon that inspires him to develop an inspiration for the family to accompany the robot. He hopes to enter the market just from the perspective of family service and create a “temperate” companion robot for busy families to accompany the child.

Since robot R&D was considered an emerging industry at that time, the domestic robot market that had just started was almost blank, and no hardware, software, or other resources were available. The Golden Ants project was launched in July 2014. It began to form robots in November. After a few months of market research, the product was initially conceived.

When the energy is formally invested in the R&D of the product, the team has experienced too many obstacles, such as whether the screen should be made into a touch screen and whether the function of classifying the photos in the cloud should be used as the core function. The team decided to abandon the touch screen after discussion. In order not to let the robot become a substitute for the tablet, the second is to hope that consumers can directly interact with the robot through speech instead of relying on the touch screen.

In order to enhance the user experience, the team has worked hard on the speech engine. HKUST provided the team with open source code for voice at the time. However, voice engines written without remote speech recognition and code that was not dispelled had almost no effect when used in children's language recognition. Children's inarticulate and poorly represented logic make speech recognition limited, so the team eventually spent a lot of time and effort developing a speech recognition program suitable for the robot.

In the early stage of mass production of the robot, Fang Feihai's team encountered the problem of insufficient supply chain resources. Since there was no factory capable of providing four-axis transmission components that matched the product, they had to customize and coordinate resources. After three months of careful polishing, the products were formally grounded in June and the first batch of crowdfunding exceeded 500 units.
