Littelfuse Introduces First Sealed Surface Mount Fuse Designed for Intrinsically Safe Protection

SR05 SOT143 package 5V ESD electrostatic protection

Littelfuse , Inc., a global leader in circuit protection, today announced the first sealed surface mount fuse designed specifically for the intrinsic safety of equipment designed for use in or near hazardous and explosive environments. And passed the UL913 standard certification. Under overcurrent and short-circuit conditions, the PICO® 304 Series Surface Mount Fuse Body has a 1 mm thick seal that minimizes heat generation and prevents sparks or arc flashes inside the fuse assembly from contact with the environment. Potentially explosive gas or dust. Thanks to this type of package, there is no need to potting or coating printed circuit boards or components, saving production time and costs, thereby reducing the cost of the final product.

PICO? 304 series products

The PICO® 304 series is rated at 277VAC/DC and has a breaking capacity of up to 1500A, making it suitable for barrier circuits and other discrete intrinsically safe circuits and non-intrinsically safe circuits. The series' current ratings range from 50mA to 750mA and are ideal for limiting fault currents in circuits, helping to reduce the required power rating and the size of downstream components, wiring and board traces.

Typical applications for the PICO® 304 series include measuring or processing electrical and electronic equipment, motor controllers, communication handsets/two-way radios and related battery chargers, process control and automation equipment, sensors, lighting, and for oil, gas, mining Flow/gas meters for chemical, pharmaceutical, catering and other processing industries.

“The PICO® 304 Series fuses are the first surface mount fuses with a sealed body rated at least 250V,” said TimPatel, global strategic marketing manager for Littelfuse . “This small fuse allows designers of intrinsically safe devices to save board space while still achieving intrinsic safety certification requirements without the need for expensive and time consuming sealing or coating processes.”

The PICO® 304 Series fuses have the following key advantages:

· Package and seal design to meet the safety requirements of hazardous areas, to avoid sparks from exposure to explosive gases or dust in the environment. Save time and money by eliminating the need to pot or seal the board, reducing the total cost of the final product.

· As this series meets UL913, IECEx and ATEX standards for hazardous and potentially explosive environments, it enhances the overall safety of production and maintenance equipment used in this range of products and ultimately enhances the safety of employees working in hazardous locations. .

• Up to 1500A rated breaking capacity and rated current from 50mA to 750mA make this intrinsically safe fuse for a wide range of applications.

Availability

The PICO® 304 series fuses are available in a surface mount 24 mm tape and reel package with a minimum order quantity of 100 or 800. Samples are available from authorized Littelfuse dealers around the world. For a list of Littelfuse authorized dealers, visit Littelfuse.com.
