According to LEDs Magazine, researchers from Philips Research in Aachen, Germany, have developed an OLED module that can be powered directly from the mains supply. The module's prototype opens the door to a simplified, system-free design that can be plugged directly into a standard power outlet without the need for bulky power management circuitry, which in turn provides OLED luminaire manufacturers with advantages, including reduced bill of materials and simplified integration and assembly processes. And the design of OLED lighting system; improve the reliability of the end product, and make the product enter the market faster. However, the physical properties of OLEDs mean that they use the traditional DC low voltage drive mode. In contrast, Philips' white light modules are driven directly by an AC power source. Dirk Hente from Philips Research said that they combined the interconnect and packaging technology to prepare the demo module, AC drive LED has entered the market, I believe this prototype is also analogous to a revolution in OLED. Although there are so many examples that do not require AC-DC conversion, there has not been such a large number of AC-LED switching. The study was conducted by Philips Research and other research units such as Dipl.-Phys. Holger Spahr, codenamed TOPAS 2012; funded by BMBF. The project will lead industry and academic institutions to jointly develop OLEDs for future lighting system applications.
